Like Negative Traits, Merits and Flaws are not essential to your character, but
they can add an extra dimension to your roleplaying and depth to your character.
You may choose up to four traits of Merits, or one Merit worth four, but these
must be counterbalanced by Flaws for a point total of 8.
For example, you could take the Merit "Berserker" (2 Traits) and the Merit
"Acute Vision" (1 Trait), which would total 3 Traits. These 3 Traits would
have to be counterbalanced by Flaws, which you could do with
"Absent-Minded" (3 Traits).
A character is allowed a total of eight 'dots' at creation. Balanced
four merits to four flaws.
All Merits and Flaws are subject to Storyteller approval. All Merits and Flaws
must make sense with the characters storyline/history.
Lastly, be prepared for Merits and Flaws to be closed as players take them. For example, we are not going to have a Chronicle full of people with Eat Food, Baby Face, Weirdness Magnet, etc. We will use our judgement on this. If there is a Merit or Flaw that you absolutely must have, ask a Storyteller about it.
